Absolutely one of my all-time favorite meals this year, Compère Lapin certainly lived up to it’s expectations and then some. Located within the Old 77 Hotel & Chandlery, the kitchen is driven by the enigmatic and stellar owner + executive chef Nina Compton. Even though Nina is originally from St. Lucia, she’s all Nola. After blowing away the competition in Bravo’s Season 11 of Top Chef (in Nola), Nina returned to New Orleans to bring her native flavors to our town. While staying at the Old 77, I had a tremendous meal which included a ridiculous Cornmeal Crusted Catfish Sandwic and Nina’s signature Sweet Potato Gnocchi + Cashews. Don’t beat me up too much, I totally wanted to have both the sandwich and the full sized Curried Goat + Sweet Potato Gnocchi & Cashews, I just couldn’t do it all!
